The Component 2 Exploring Prospects for Intermodal Transport Development Workshop of “Strengthening Intermodal Transport Services in Turkish Railway Sector (U-IMT)” Project was held

The Component 2 Exploring Prospects for Intermodal Transport Development Workshop of the “Strengthening Intermodal Transport Services in the Turkish Railway Sector” (U-IMT), co-financed by the European Union and the Republic of Türkiye, of which the Strategy Development Directorate of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure is the end recipient authority, was held in four provinces was held. The meeting was chaired by Ms. Dr. Demet Cavcav, the Head of Planning Department of Strategy Development Directorate.

Between the 8th-16th January 2024 in İstanbul, İzmir, Trabzon, and Mersin, the workshop was attended by the stakeholders of the project, namely Directorate General for European Union and Foreign Relations, Directorate General for Infrastructure Investments, and other related units of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure beside Directorate General for Transport Services Regulation, State Railways of the Republic of Turkey (TCDD), TCDD Tasimacilik A.S. and local representatives of private freight forwarders and non-governmental organisations interested in multimodal transport activities in Turkey. In the first session of the workshop, which started with the speech of Ms. Dr. Demet Cavcav the Head of Planning Department of Strategy Development Directorate, the end beneficiary of the project, details of the completed second component report of the U-IMT Project were shared and stakeholders’ comments and opinions about the report were discussed. In the second session, which took place in the afternoon, participants shared their local observations in focus group meeting and presented their suggestions for the development of intermodal transportation within the scope of guidance questions.
